Marla Custom Blinds Reach for The Sky
When Brymor Contractors recently asked us to make and fit four 4.50m long and two 22.50m long skylight canopies for the QE11 Cruise Passenger Terminal in Southampton, we said “No problem.”
The “special projects team” at Marla Custom Blinds love a challenge so set to work on planning the manufacturing and installation of the bespoke panels.
“Making blinds that together, totalled more than the length of an Olympic swimming pool, was no problem for our Fareham based factory, but fitting that much material seven metres (23 feet!) above the ground was an exciting challenge.” Said Drew Mitchell, Marla’s production and installation manager. “We had to use a combination of a scaffolding tower and a scissor lift, so It’s just as well our experienced blind installers have a head for heights.”
Marla Custom Blinds completed the job in just two days. Day one saw the safe removal of the original dirty canopies. Day two saw the fitting of a total of six custom made new PVC skylight canopies (2 x 22.5 metres and 4 x 4.5m).
The new canopies have transformed the atmosphere of the vast departures hall. “It’s so much brighter now!” Said Danny Froud, Marla’s Sales Executive for the project. “The clients are delighted, and so are we!”
Fareham-based Marla Custom Blinds don’t just handle big projects like this. Managing Director, Martin Froud commented “Whilst it is nice to do something a bit different, we are equally at home with our feet firmly on the ground installing blinds in office refurbs, schools and other commercial environments”.
