Make it safe<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If your blinds are to be used in premises where children aged between 0 \u2013 42 months are likely to have access or be present and the blinds require the installation of additional safety devices to make them compliant with the child safety section of EN 13120 then we are legally obliged to install these devices. <\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For commercial premises where children aged between 0 \u2013 42 months are not likely to have access we can supply non-compliant blinds subject to our Risk Assessment being completed and signed.<\/span><\/em>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n<p class=\"ctatext6\"><strong>Window blind and curtain continuous loop cords and chains can pose a danger of strangulation to young children<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marlacustomblinds.co.uk\/conservatory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/make-it-safe-logo-high-res-100-x-87.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1192\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marlacustomblinds.co.uk\/conservatory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/make-it-safe-logo-high-res-100-x-87.jpg\" alt=\"makeitsafe-logo\" class=\" wp-image-1192 alignright\" width=\"177\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marla Custom Blinds are proud to be members of the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) and fully support the Make It Safe campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Make it Safe<\/strong>\u201d is the BBSA\u2019s child safety campaign for the safe supply, installation and use of window blinds which have a continuous loop cord or chain.<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch, the Make It Safe campaign has pressed for safer window blinds and the promotion of safety for all window treatments.<\/p>\n<p>The Make It Safe campaign has seen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The BBSA taking a leading role in the development of the European standards for window blinds specifically concerning child safety<\/li>\n<li>The creation and promotion of a website, retail promotional materials and internationally recognised videos promoting safer window treatments<\/li>\n<li>The provision of expert advice to regulators and those responsible for standard development, as well as assisting media and established safety organisations to appropriately promote safer window blinds<\/li>\n<li>The insistence of early adoption of safety regulations by all of its membership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Make It Safe campaign is endorsed by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the Child Accident Prevent Trust (CAPT) and referenced by many other organisations.<\/p>\n<p>As an accredited member of the BBSA we have been closely involved in the Make It Safe campaign and the changes required in the way internal blinds are made, sold and professionally installed.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations place a legal responsibility on all suppliers and professional installers to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide safety devices to reduce the risk of any cords or chains forming a hazardous loop<\/li>\n<li>Test all safety critical items of internal blinds<\/li>\n<li>Test blinds using safety devices<\/li>\n<li>Observe maximum cord and chain lengths<\/li>\n<li>Provide specific warnings and instructions<\/li>\n<li>Provide information on packaging and at point of sale<\/li>\n<li>Fit safety devices when professionally installing blinds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #222222; We strongly recommend that these products are always considered first when you are buying new blinds for homes or public buildings.<\/p>\n<p><b>If you require blinds that have operating cords or chains please note the new regulations will mean cord and chain lengths are determined by the European standard, and where a safety device is needed we will have to install the device, by law.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Making existing blinds safer<\/h3>\n<p>There are a range of safety devices which have been tested to the new mandatory standards and can help to make existing blinds safer. There are options for virtually every style of blind so you do not have to wait until you change your blind to make it safer.<\/p>\n<h3>General safety advice<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If fitting blinds yourself, please make sure that you follow the installation instructions carefully and make sure any safety devices supplied are correctly installed<\/li>\n<li>Do not place your child\u2019s cot, bed, highchair or playpen near to a window blind<\/li>\n<li>Make sure all cords and chains are always secured out of reach of babies and young children<\/li>\n<li>Do not tie cords or chains together.
