Domestic and commercial contracts make a happy blend

Many people assume that the core market for Marla Custom Blinds’ franchisees is domestic blinds, and in particular conservatory blinds, however a lot of our business comes from commercial contracts.

We firmly believe that a successful business needs to have as wide a market as possible and so we train our franchisees how to find and win commercial contracts as well as domestic orders.  The industry sector as a whole is worth in excess of £1 billion so it’s vital to target all aspects of this market and find the right balance between domestic and commercial work in order to maintain a healthy cash flow.

The majority of our franchisees have had previous experience dealing with one type of customer; usually either residential, companies or contractors, but not all three. We’re able to encourage and support them in engaging with all sectors of the market.

Marla Custom Blinds has over 20 years’ experience and we know how to win lucrative commercial contracts with estate management firms, facilities management companies and local authorities.  Using our status as a leader in the market for supplying and fitting the widest range of tailor made blinds, awnings and shutters of any specialist in the industry, we’re able to support our franchisees as they target these types of contracts.

Franchisees can benefit in many ways from commercial relationships, for example they’re often high value contracts, they can develop into regular ongoing work and fixed term contracts provide benefits for cash flow.

We also find that commercial contracts can benefit more than one franchisee in the network.  Often the requirement grows and can spread regionally or even nationally, as a result several franchisees can benefit from what starts as one local contract.

Whilst franchisees often start with a greater proportion of domestic work and commercial contracts being the icing on the cake, they find that over time, as their reputation grows, commercial relationships become core to their business as it develops.
